Industry standard R-Value for insulation pre 1990 was R19, approximately 5-6 inches thick. Today's industry standard R-Value for new build homes is R49, approximately 16-18 inches thick! If you live in a home with higher than normal utility cost, or notice cold/warm drafts in extreme weather, re-insulating and air sealing your home may be for you!
